The African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English
(ARCSSTE-E), situated within the Obafemi Awolowo University Campus, Ile-Ife, Nigeria,
hosted students from Love and Joy Secondary School, Ilesha, Osun State, on Tuesday March
10, 2026, as part of its ongoing space education outreach activities. The visit was organized to
introduce the students to the fundamentals of space science and technology, as well as stimulate
their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines and
career paths.
The Head of Space Outreach and Education Programme (SEOP) Division, Dr Samuel Anih,
on behalf of the Director, Engr. Dr. Seyi F. Olatoyinbo, welcomed the students and their
teachers to the Centre. He assured them of a wonderful learning experience at ARCSSTE-E.
The programme began with a presentation titled “General Overview of Outer Space”
delivered by Mrs. Oluwatoyin Morakinyo of SEOP Division. During the presentation, the
students were introduced to the concept of outer space, which begins approximately 100 km
above the Earth’s surface, and the difference between the environment on Earth and the
conditions in outer space, such as extreme emperature variations, zero atmospheric pressure,
and microgravity condition.

The presentation also highlighted the importance and benefits of space science and technology,
including its applications in weather forecasting, satellite communication, internet services,
navigation for ships and aircraft, disaster management, telemedicine, and the development of
new materials.
In addition, the students learned about satellites, astronauts, and space suits, as well as the
various types of satellites such as meteorological, remote sensing, navigation, communication,
and scientific satellites. The session also emphasized the numerous career opportunities
available in the space sector, including roles for scientists, engineers, technologists, medical
professionals, educators, and many other professionals, letting the students realize that “Space
is for All”.
Following the presentation, an interactive question-and-answer session was held where the
students asked several questions about space exploration, how astronauts return to earth, and
careers in the space industry. The facilitators provided detailed responses, further enriching the
students’ understanding and curiosity about space science.

The visit concluded with an exhibition and guided tour of the Space Museum, where the
students were shown various space-related exhibits and educational materials. The exhibition
provided the students with a practical and visual understanding of the concepts discussed
during the presentation. The students were given some posters to further enhance their
understanding of space exploration.
Overall, the outreach visit was both educational and inspiring, providing the students with
valuable exposure to the field of space science and technology while encouraging them to
pursue careers in STEM-related disciplines.
