The African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English (ARCSSTE-E) located within Obafemi Awolowo University Campus, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria held its 2024 get-together on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Centre’s Space Museum with pomp and pageantry.
The Centre’s Director, Engr. Dr. Seyi Festus Olatoyinbo, in his Welcome Address, stated briefly the reasons for the gathering, which were to appreciate God for His divine protection throughout the year 2024, to appreciate the Management and Staff for their unflinching support, to wine, dine and bond together as a family, to recognize some outstanding members of staff and to encourage all members of staff to be the best version of themselves in the coming year.
There was a brief, fun-filled session of guessing games where members of staff were given some riddles to answer. Afterwards, the Director called out the names of some outstanding members of staff selected based on the core principles of civil service including Stewardship, Trust, Engagement and Professionalism (STEP). Three (3) distinguished members of staff from the three (3) divisions of the Centre were recognized, namely, Mr. Taiwo Aileru (Technical Division), Mr. Fisayo Rabiu (Administration Division) and Mrs. Latifat Adetoro (Finance & Accounts Division). These three distinguished members were presented with commendation letters by the Director. Furthermore, the Director specially recognized Mrs. Latifat Adetoro as the most Outstanding Staff for the Year 2024, having excelled in leadership qualities and interpersonal skills, among others.
In addition, the Director heartily appreciated his top management staff, namely Mr. Abdulraheem Umazayi Shuaib (DD, Finance & Accounts), Dr. Olakunle Rufus Oladosu (DD, Technical) and Mr. Samam Obaguo (DD, Administration) with gifts, for their unalloyed loyalty and all-round support, which have propelled the Centre forward. Dr. Olatoyinbo also reiterated his commitment to the actualization of the Three-Point Agenda of the Director General/CEO of National Space Research and Development Agency, Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju, through his strategic programmes on staff welfare, human capacity building and infrastructural development, among others.
Afterwards, three members of top management team gave their words of wisdom for the coming year, 2025. Mr. A. U. Shuaib (Head, Finance & Accounts) charged the members of staff to always do their best and also manage their finances well in order to avoid financial embarrassment in the coming year, while Dr. O. R. Oladosu (Head, Atmospheric and Allied Science) encouraged members of staff to love their work as that is an effective way of being productive. In his own words, Dr. Felix N. Buba (Head, PG Programmes) admonished all members of staff to make good use of every opportunity that comes their ways, in other words “to make hay while the sun shines”. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. S. Obaguo (Head, Administration). He warmly appreciated the energetic Director, as well as the Management and Staff for their unalloyed cooperation and continued support, which have culminated into tangible achievements and growth of the Centre in the last few months.
