New Staff Orientation Programme

The African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English (ARCSSTE-E) [Affiliated to the United Nations] held an orientation programme for its newly-engaged staff on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 in its Space Museum situated within the Obafemi Awolowo University Campus, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The event was organized to formally welcome and familiarize the new staff with the Centre’s operations, work ethics, culture, and expectations, among others.
The occasion was graced by the Director of the Centre, Engr. Dr. Seyi F. Olatoyinbo and the top management staff; Dr. Olakunle R. Oladosu (Head, Atmospheric and Allied Sciences), Mr. Samam Obaguo (Head, Administration) ably represented by Mr. Victor Siawe (Head, Media and Corporate Communications), and Dr. Felix N. Buba (Head, Academic Programmes). Also present were other Head of Divisions including Dr. Adebayo G. Ojo (Space Applications), Barr. Dr. Olusoji N. John (Legal Unit), Engr. Dr. Olaleye Salu (Engineering & Technical Support), Mr. Baba O. Shaibu (Finance & Accounts), Mrs. Olayinka T. Oladejo (Welfare) and Dr. Oluwaseun Ajileye (Space Weather).

Mr. Victor Siawe delivered a welcome address, appreciating the Executive Director for facilitating the orientation programme while emphasizing the importance of teamwork, dedication, and adherence to the Centre’s vision to the newly-deployed members of staff.

The Director, in his welcome address, expressed his profound gratitude to the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) for fulfilling his promise of deploying new staff to the Centre for more efficient service delivery, among others. He also acknowledged the relentless efforts of the management and staff in ensuring the actualization of the mandates of the Centre. Likewise, he congratulated the new staff for joining ARCSSTE-E’s workforce and encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to the Centre’s mandates of promoting space science and technology education, space outreach programmes, as well as Research and Development. Afterwards, the new staff members, comprising technical and administrative staff, were given the ample opportunity to give a brief introduction of themselves.

Three (3) key presentations were made during the orientation exercise. The first presentation was entitled “An Overview of ARCSSTE-E” given by Mr. Victor Siawe. He highlighted the Centre’s core mandates, mission statement, vision statement, contributions to human capital development within the Anglophone African countries and the future prospects of ARCSSTE-E.

Mr. Stephen Adeyemo delivered the second presentation entitled “Administrative Process at ARCSSTE-E”. He provided insights into internal administrative procedure and staff responsibilities. Also, he highlighted the basic communication process and hierarchical order that every staff should be conversant with.
The third presentation by Dr. Friday Ogaleye dwelt on “
Code of Ethics and Conduct in Public Service”. He focused on maintaining professionalism, integrity, and accountability in the workplace. He encouraged the new staff members to familiarize themselves with the Public Service Rules that cover every stage of their career progression from appointment to retirement.

Shortly before his closing remark, the Director gave all the management staff the opportunity to give words of advice and encouragement to the newly-deployed members of staff. The Director appreciated all participants and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to fostering a conducive and progressive work environment.

Overall, the orientation programme was very informative, educative as well as engaging, effectively equipping the new staff with essential knowledge about ARCSSTE-E’s mandates, mission, structure, and professional expectations.
